|and swimming and good food? Try this trip for a really relaxing and unique holiday, endorsed by Sarah Playforth, who
enjoyed it so much, she’s been four times!
You will stay onboard a traditional Turkish gulet which will cruise from bay to bay as you hike along the coast., stopping
overnight in bays and hiking by day from one small cove to another along tracks still used by shepherds today, most of
which are so remote they can only be accessed from the sea. There will be plenty of time to relax on board and swim too.
The trip is operated by the owners of East Meets West, Captain Adil, his wife Anne and their friendly crew who are a sailor
and fabulous cook. Between them they take care of everything onboard, from seamanship to cooking to housekeeping and
of course hospitality. Anne will also be joining us for the tours of Istanbul and Ephesus.
Sarah says: “I’ve been on the gulet cruise and hiking trip four times now and highly recommend it to all who like the idea of
hiking, swimming and relaxing in beautiful surroundings with wonderful food, glorious landscapes and seascapes and all
with a crew who have great deaf awareness.
Anne is now very experienced in communicating with deaf people after learning a lot from previous trips! This time, there is
an optional extra, walking tours of Ephesus and Istanbul so you can absorb more history of this fascinating country. The
trips before have been women only but lots of couples have asked about them so this time it is open to both men and
women. If you want to know more about my previous trips, do email me on firstname.lastname@example.org or read my blog at srhplfrth.
The trip is designed for the active traveller who enjoys finding out about other cultures and enjoys the company of other
deaf and hard of hearing people. You don’t have to be deaf yourself to come, just be prepared to put a bit of effort into
communicating with other people. Previous trips have included hearing, deaf and hard of hearing people who lip read, use
when necessary—usually just to relay important information about the itinerary and we’ve all managed very well.
The pace on this trip is relaxed and allows you to decide how active you want to be; you might join the walks or stay
onboard and relax. Grade: Low-Intermediate—Paths will be rocky with ups and downs and the lengths of the walks vary
from 2—5 hours. The walks are too short to be classed as intermediate, but the terrain is correctly graded as intermediate.
Note: the itinerary is very flexible and open to change. For all walks you need hiking boots (with or without ankle support)
as the paths are littered with loose rocks and stones.
Intermediate walks are suited to people with hiking experience and walking poles are recommended.
